Your mum might have made you feel embarrassed more than once in the past, she meddles and nags, but despite all that, she is a person who loves you and will always love you unconditionally. For this reason, during special occasions, you must make it a point to give her something special and try to find special gift ideas for her. If it becomes too difficult to find the perfect gift, just have one made especially for her.

Though there are mums that protest and insist that they do not want to receive chocolates, you can still give her chocolate related gifts like enrolling her to a chocolate workshop where she can learn how to make various chocolaty treats. If she happens to be a true chocoholic, she will undoubtedly make all of those treats at home. You can also choose to give her other something edible and a memorable experience at the same time like the Retro Sweet Hamper which will contains lots of yummy treats. At the same time, it will be perfect for having a picnic with dad. Other food related Christmas presents which will not add calories would also work. You can have a personalized card made for her with Christmas pudding as the design. Personalized cards will always be more special because they will have that personal touch and you can actually say what you want to say with one. If you plan to give her slippers, you can have her name or Best Mum monogrammed on them. Other items can be personalized as well.

Mums who are into gardening will enjoy gifts like flowers. If she grew up during the Flower Power era, she might even find such gifts nostalgic. However, instead of giving her a bouquet from the local gas station, make it more special like the Name a Rose gift set. This will name a rose after her and the set even includes seeds to grow that particular rose. Another option would be the Green Fingers Basket. This particular set includes gardening tools with lots of other extras. In case she loves to cook as well, gifts for women could be those grow it kits that come with seeds for certain herbs. With your gift, she will never run out of fresh herbs to flavor and garnish her dishes. Remember, if you fail to find the perfect gift, just have it made especially for her.

Keeping your lawn in great condition can be pretty difficult. Bad airflow and inconsistent natural light from high garden walls and fences make it difficult to get a perfect garden. Here are some great tips to give to give your lawn the care it deserves.

Thinning Grass

If your grass is appearing thin in places, is dull and has weeds then here are a few tips:

Remove any weeds or moss from the roots and dont be afraid to leave soil patches

Get good quality compost its worth paying the money if you want to keep weeds at bay and make your grass beautiful and thick. Lightly sprinkle a thin layer of compost all over your lawn filling in any holes so your lawn is even.

Get lawn seed and lightly sprinkle this over the top of the compost sprinkled lawn. Where there a bald patches add more lawn seed.

Lightly water with a watering can with a nozzle on the end dont soak your lawn this will have the adverse effect.

Ensure to keep off the lawn for about three weeks until the seeds have grew into a beautiful garden.

Mowing

Mowing your lawn properly can really make a difference. Heres how:

Avoid cutting the lawn until seeds have germinated, if you mow your lawn too soon you run the risk of blowing the seeds all over the garden and grass coming out of the flowerbeds is never a good look.

Never cut the grass below 1 inch, grass shorter than this shoes the soil and makes your lawn appear thin.

To avoid shocking the grass, never cut more than one third of grass off at a time.

From March to October, mow your lawn once a week.

Dont always cut your grass in one direction this stops the grass getting used to growing in one direction.

To help the grass resist disease, use a sharp blade to cut your lawn.

Watering

Keeping your lawn a beautiful green can be hard. Water your lawn deeply once a week. A great tip for now overwatering is place a cup in the centre of your lawn, or in the way of the sprinklers, water as normal and stop once the cup is about half full.

A generous watering once a week should have a great effect on making your lawn really green.

With a little tender loving lawn care your lawn will be looking great in no time at all.

Although this sounds like a lot to juggle, its really not that difficult.

In your arsenal of gardening tools, you will need good hoes, spades, rakes, pruners, and a sturdy wheelbarrow.

Then you must learn how to control weeds effectively.

Control the size of yourshrubsandtrees with a few basic pruning cuts.

Invest the very best tools you can afford. There is no substitute for good quality gardening tools.

You dont want gardening tools to fail you just when you need them the most.

Ensure good quality by investing in gardening tools with guaranteed performance.

Steel bladed gardening tools are strong and will not bend. Stainless steelgardening tools are even better, because they wont rust.

Spades, shovels, and gardening forks will not break during heavy gardening.

If you have a small build, use gardening tools that fit your build. If all your tools are kept in one place, gardening projects will be less complicated.

Vegetable growing using your gardening tools

If you are an avid vegetable grower, you will need a much larger set of gardening tools.

Tools that you cant do without include a shovel, a hoe and a rake.

A manure spreader and a watering system would also be useful.

If you are working close to the ground the majority of the time, you will need knee pads and a small trowel to help turn the soil occasionally.

Invest in high-quality flower pots and stands in order to give your vegetables the best chance after they are planted.

Remember, gardening is an art rather than a science. Although you need to adhere to some basic principles, you can often use a combination different methods to find out what suits you best.

Planting hedges using your garden tools

You will need to dig up the required area by using your gardening tools, such as a spade. The trench should be about 35 cms deep.

Wooden stakes must be positioned at each end of the line to act as a guide.

Planting in frosty weather will make the roots freeze dont do it.

Also, do not allow your plants to dry out before planting. Remember that using your garden hand tools to dig out the trench too soon may ruin the soil structure. Ensure you water well during the first warm season.

Trimming using your garden hand tools

The majority of hedges are best left untrimming in the first season with a few exceptions.

After this, trim your hedges at least once a year cutting ensuing the base of the hedge is wider than the top.

This will maximising the light at the bottom of your hedge, making for a healthier, thicker plant. Your garden hand tools are essential here.

A cautionary word on hedges

Some hedges are toxic and should be used with caution if animals spend time near your hedge.

The following hedges are considered toxic Buxus, Euonymus europaeus, Ilex, Ligustrum, Prunus laurocerasus, Quercus and Taxus.
